The Journey to the Center of the Cypher breakin’/poppin’ battle event was a tremendous success! Universal Zulu Nation’s Indiana Chapter helped to raise a surprising amount of donations for the Congo World Relief Fund! Here’s how it went:

Come and witness the five elements of hip hop culture (graffiti, deejaying, breaking, emceeing, and knowledge) in action! $5 cover. All proceeds go to The Walter and Connie Payton Foundation! (www.payton34.com)
[Tomahawk Zulus presents Universal Beatdown Beat Battle Series is a single elimination hip hop producer/beatmaker competition.]
1. All contestants must submit original beats.
2. There will be a sign-up sheet near the entrance of each venue at which the battles take place.
3. Beats must be submitted to the DJ in the following formats: iPod/mp3 player, data disc (CD/DVD), flash drive, or (less preferably) music CD. SUBMISSIONS MUST BE IN MP3 OR WAV FORMAT. (No ogg, m4a, wma, or flac, please!)
4. Contestants will go head-to-head for 3-4 rounds; single elimination.
5. The winner will be picked based on the judges scores (on a scale of 1-10) and crowd response.
6. The judges will base their decision on various factors, including but not limited to originality, style, and sound quality/clarity of the submitted production.
7. Contestants will have their track heard by the judges and crowd for 45 seconds to 1 minute during each round.
8. All contestants must be prepared to submit at least 5 tracks.
9. For early registration for any of the 3 beat battles (Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, Mishawaka) contact Raafiq at 765-729-3222 and be prepared to submit your name, age, location, and contact information.
10. The winner will receive a $300 cash prize upon successful completion of the contest.

This event was a major success! Thanks to Fellowship Missionary Church in Fort Wayne and everyone that stepped up to support the cause! Over 200 pairs of shoes were collected for the Fort Wayne Community Schools Clothing Bank!
